Rolex Submariner – Reference 5512 (1967) RE
Heritage Narrative
The Rolex Submariner reference 5512 is one of the most historically significant references within the Submariner lineage. Introduced in the late 1950s, the 5512 marked a turning point for Rolex’s professional dive watches, establishing the symmetrical crown guard case design that would define the Submariner for decades. It also served as the platform for Rolex’s chronometer-certified Submariners, preceding later four-line references.
This example from 1967 features a classic black dial with luminous hour plots and the traditional Submariner layout, protected by a domed plexiglass crystal. The matte black dial configuration, combined with the absence of date complication, preserves the original tool-watch intent that made the Submariner an essential instrument rather than a luxury accessory.
