The Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 16660, affectionately known among collectors as the “Triple Six”, marked a major technological leap for Rolex’s professional diving line. Introduced in the early 1980s, it bridged the gap between the vintage 1665 and the modern Deepsea, introducing for the first time a sapphire crystal, an upgraded Calibre 3035 movement, and a significantly improved 1,220-meter (4,000 ft) depth rating — double that of its predecessor.

This 1991 example features a 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case, complete with the signature helium escape valve, ensuring its reliability under the most extreme decompression conditions. The matte black dial is paired with luminous hour markers and Mercedes hands for legibility in low-light environments.
