Rolex GMT-Master II 'Coke - Oyster' - Reference 16710 (2000)
Rolex GMT-Master II 'Coke - Oyster' - Reference 16710 (2000)
Heritage Narrative
The Rolex GMT-Master II, first introduced in 1982, evolved from the legendary GMT-Master created for Pan Am pilots in the 1950s. The reference 16710, produced from 1989 until 2007, became the defining GMT of its era, offering slimmer case proportions and the versatile calibre 3185/3186 movement. Known for its interchangeable aluminum bezel inserts, the 16710 was offered in red/blue (“Pepsi”), black/red (“Coke”), and all-black configurations, each carrying its own identity within the GMT lineage.
This September 2000 example, reference 16710, features the rare all-black aluminum bezel insert, paired with a 40 mm Oystersteel case and black dial with luminous markers. Powered by the calibre 3185, it delivers chronometer-certified precision, an independently adjustable local hour hand, and ~50 hours of power reserve. Offered in mint condition and accompanied by its full set of box and papers, it represents a pristine example of one of the most versatile and collectible GMT references of the modern-vintage era.
