The Rolex GMT-Master was originally developed in the 1950s in collaboration with Pan American Airways to meet the needs of long-haul pilots. Its defining feature, the dual-time function paired with a bi-color bezel, allowed wearers to track multiple time zones simultaneously. Over time, the GMT-Master became one of Rolex’s most iconic and instantly recognizable tool watches.
The reference 16700 represents the final generation of the GMT-Master line before Rolex transitioned fully to the GMT-Master II platform. Produced throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, the 16700 retains the classic aluminum “Pepsi” bezel in red and blue, combined with a clean black dial and traditional proportions that collectors continue to favor.
This example features the original stainless steel Jubilee bracelet, adding a slightly more elegant character compared to the Oyster while remaining period-correct. The watch has been serviced by Rolex and is accompanied by official Rolex service documentation, confirming mechanical integrity and authenticity. With its original box included, this piece represents a well-preserved and honest example of a classic transitional GMT-Master reference.
