Heritage Narrative

Launched in 1961, the reference 3445 was Patek Philippe’s first automatic wristwatch produced in regular series to feature a date display. Its heart is the Calibre 27-460 M—an evolution of the firm’s inaugural self-winding movement—adding a quick-set calendar while preserving the meticulous hand-finishing that defines earlier Calatravas. Collectors often view the 3445 as a transition piece bridging mid-century, manually wound dress watches and the more technically ambitious offerings of the 1970s: it retains the minimalist Calatrava aesthetic while introducing a practical date function and a 37-jewel, Gyromax-equipped automatic drivetrain. With an 18 ct yellow-gold case, plexiglass crystal, and a refined small-seconds sub-dial, this circa-1971 example represents a pivotal era in Patek Philippe’s history—where discreet luxury met innovative mechanics.
