Ikepod Hemipode Chronometer – Reference H01 (2000)
Ikepod Hemipode Chronometer – Reference H01 (2000)
Heritage Narrative
Ikepod occupies a very specific corner of modern watch history. Founded in the 1990s by Marc Newson, one of the most influential industrial designers of the modern era, Ikepod watches rejected traditional Swiss aesthetics in favor of pure, sculptural form. The Hemipode line is the clearest expression of that philosophy.
The Hemipode Chronometer H01 is defined by its bold, organic case shape and minimalist dial design. At 44 mm, the watch was deliberately oversized for its era, anticipating the large-watch trend that would dominate the following decade. The smooth, pebble-like stainless steel case eliminates sharp angles entirely, making the watch wear smaller than its dimensions suggest while remaining visually striking.
The black dial is a masterclass in restraint. Clean typography, uncluttered sub-dials, and balanced proportions reflect Newson’s industrial design roots rather than classical watchmaking traditions. Inside, the automatic chronometer-rated movement delivers serious mechanical credibility beneath the avant-garde exterior.
Today, early Ikepod models like the Hemipode are increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate design-led watchmaking and late-1990s experimentation. This is not a conservative watch. It never was. That is precisely the point.
